FLORANTE AT LAURA
FLORANTE AND LAURA
Hahamaking lahat, masunod ka lamang!
To forsake everything for love!
Crime, corruption, politics, religion, and love against all odds are in this modern adaptation of Francisco “Balagtas” Baltazar’s 1838 metrical romance Ang Pinagdaanang Buhay ni Florante at ni Laura sa Caharian ng Albania (The Life of Florante and Laura in the Kingdom of Albania), about the reconciliation of warring religious factions through a recognition of a shared fate in love. This adaptation will be set in the city, an urban jungle standing in for Balagtas’ medieval jungle.
FASHIONERA
There are truths only magic can reveal.
Lilia sets out on a life adventure when a beggar gifts her with a pair of magic shoes that will transform her into Lily, a more beautiful version of herself, and help her execute the crazy shoe designs she comes up with. The film is a reinterpretation of the classic fairy tales of The Elves and the Shoemaker and Cinderella with a very modern but still magical twist. In the end, Lilia has to choose whether she should pursue her life as Lilia or as Lily, both paths made possible for her by her magic shoes. The classic fairytale treatment is enhanced by significant social issues on addressing climate change, encouraging energy efficiency and conservation, and using information communication technology to aid small businesses in the modern age.
BANANA HEART SUMMER
For those who love to love and eat.
And those who long to love and eat.
An adaptation of Filipino Australian writer Merlinda Bobis’ bestselling novel, Banana Heart Summer. According to a Philippine legend, the banana heart drops a magical amulet, as it blooms, to anyone who’s willing to wait underneath it with mouth agape. Perhaps the myth of the banana heart has the answers and that secret amulet for survival, as 12-year-old Nenita serves us a sumptuous feast of local dishes and a quietly heartbreaking tale.
